The Voice of the Poor calls us: "In the spirit of Christian love and justice, to uphold Catholic values by researching, validating, documenting, advocating, and promulgating issues related to the condition of the poor and disenfranchised for the purpose of helping Vincentians to live their faith by acting knowledgeably and credibly as a unified body speaking with one voice for the purpose of building up the Kingdom of God."

As Catholics and members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, we see the face of Jesus in those we help. We have a responsibility to speak for those who have no voice and identify areas of need and poverty in our community. It is our calling to bring stories of the poor to life. Many groups ask for money and other resources, but:

  • Who is speaking for the poor?
  • Who is asking the community to acknowledge this problem?
  • Who is encouraging people to take  responsibility for serving those who can't help themselves or who don't have the tools to help themselves?

Through our stories, statistics and services we put a face on advocacy efforts.  We show decision makers who are the poor and needy.  We will show the policy makers what they wouldn't find in reports or community assessments.
